Starting a workout routine can help improve your body, mind, and even soul. But you end up getting diminishing returns if you only focus on one exercise all of the time and/or don't increase the amount of force you exert. Your body gets used to a particular type and level of strain and you eventually can't progress forward. You can think of your social media the same way. If you always post one particular kind of content, say jokes for example, and you never take the time to post some other kind of content (news, opinions, sales information, pictures, etc) you will never reap all of the benefits that comes from posting different types of content.
The Benefits Of Some Experimentation
One big problem with many social media pages is that they don't know what type of content actually works best for them. If they post the same kind of content day after day and don't mix it up at all, they'll never figure out if some other type of content can also be very effective. To this end, it pays to use analytics and track the number of likes, shares, comments, and engagement you get on each type of post. Come up with a plan to post new and different types of content on your page. If you've always focused on humor, get serious once in a while. If you've always posted pictures, try something new once in a while. If you've always focused on current events, tell people a little about your business's story or even speculate about the distant future. Many of these ideas won't work, but that's ok. If you can stumble onto just one idea that eventually does work, you can build on that.
Another example is that when businesses do any kind of advertising, they don't do any kind of split testing to try out different ads with different slogans or different pictures, they just pick the first thing that sounds good to them and run with it. They never figure out if they've chosen the best converting ad, so they could be leaving a considerable amount of clicks on the table. Especially in this economy, you always want to maximize your return on investment and you do that by experimenting and seeing what works the best.
Experimenting In All Things
There's a first time for everything. You should always be trying out new and different ideas. If you've never bought Facebook ads before, give it a shot. If you've never tried to buy Facebook likes before, try an experiment and run with it. If you've never tried to shoot a funny video for your Facebook page before, grab a drink and leap into it with enthusiasm. Don't be dismayed when you try out an idea, or even 99 ideas in a row and they all fail. Finding even one different thing that works for you will be something that you can rely on and use again and again.
Do At Least One Thing Different Today
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a simple step. You don't need to do everything all at once, but just take one step forward and do one simple thing today. Try one new thing every day and pretty soon you'll find plenty of new ideas that can benefit your page. It doesn't have to be complicated, it can be as simple as setting up a Pinterest account and seeing if posting a few cool product photos works well for you. But if you don't make that effort to consistently try one new thing, you'll never find out the different ways that you can grow your Facebook page.
